In case anyone is still searching for accommodations, my friend Andrea and her dog Sarge inform me that the Jupiter Hotel in SE Portland has dog-friendly rooms for $109/night, via www.tablethotels.com
The Jupiter is not downtown, but is within a few blocks of the Burnside Bridge in SE Portland, which makes for a not very long walk across the Willamette to downtown. The hotel doubles as a gallery and shares a courtyard with the Doug Fir Lounge/Restaurant, which is also a very decent music venue. Could be a fun and loud place to be for the weekend.
Thursday June 12 at 7pm the Portland Timbers will be playing Atlanta. This is a “thirsty thursday” game, meaning beer is cheap and something weird usually happens, like the half time costume contest for pugs (the one dressed like superwoman took home the blue ribbon).
What Portland lacks in professional sports teams, we make up for with the Timbers. There’s the devoted mass of chanting, drumming fans called the Timbers Army, the games are set at PGE Park which is both intimate and urban, and the soccer itself is not half bad. Not great, but they really are getting better. MLS here we come.
So if you’re in town and looking for something fun to do that Thursday before the reception, this is highly recommended. We’ll be there in the $10 G.A. seats – somewhere in the 104/105 sections (map below).
So You Think You Can Dance started back up again last night. I love this show. I am not ashamed. Los Angelenos, I am expecting big things from you all on the dance floor…you have a little over 3 weeks to practice.
If you good people are planning on sending back your RSVP cards in the next couple of weeks, please remember to add a 1 cent stamp to it. Postage is going up tomorrow, May 12th, which will cost $.27 to send a postcard, i.e. the RSVP card. Thanks! We promise this is the only thing you’ll be asked to pay for.
Happy mom’s day!
UPDATE: Darcy, our very nice and very chatty mail carrier, says there should be no problem getting the postcards with 26 cent postage delivered. If there is no return address, they have nowhere else to send it. Best bet is to add a 1 cent stamp. Next best is to put it in a mail drop and leave off a return address. Also, Darcy says she enjoys reading everyone’s song requests, and hopes someone will request anything by Arcade Fire. She also says she has a dog named Cooter Tyrone, and dogs shouldn’t eat cherries because the pits have arsenic in them. I have learned so much since working from home.
A few RSVPs have rolled in over the past couple weeks…we’re LOVING the song selections. What a variety. A couple people have told us that they haven’t sent anything back yet because they’re stumped on narrowing it down. Hey don’t let that stop ya. Jim Helin responded with not one song, not two songs, but 8 songs. 8 songs! Plus Sal snuck one of her own in there. That’s 9 song requests from the Helin household alone. They had to send everything in a separate envelope just so all the song requests would fit. Extra postage was required for all those song requests. Such effort, we might even play one. I keed! Love you mom and dad.
