gone fishing

Our time in Napili Bay has come to an end, sadly, but don’t cry for us Argentina (i know there is no pity out there for us on the mainland). We’ve landed in Makena at the Maui Prince for another 2 days.

On the way down south, we stopped in at the Maui Ocean Center to see some local marine life. It was awesome. Like snorkeling without getting your hair wet or the bothersome sand in the cre-vah-ces. We saw all kinds of fish, baby seahorses, hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, and a great exhibit on ancient Hawaiian fishing methods. Aquamax was right at home.

The Maui Prince is pretty great. The kind people here snuck in and dropped off some cheese and crackers and a bottle of champagne. I drank in our honour, Max toasted us with camembert.

We’re going to attempt to get out there early tomorrow for some snorkeling to see how many creatures we can spot from the aquarium today. I’ll be thrilled if we see anything but the hammerheads. Or the tiger sharks. Or black tailed reefy things. Blarg.

BTW, Makena has overtaken the prize as place we will live in Maui when our wealthy benefactor finally hands over the big check.

Had a delicious lunch yesterday in Makawao, a small town upcountry. Lots of hippies. One bearded lady. Really nice little place. Decided this is the place we would live if we moved to Maui. This decision changes daily. Then we drove back along the windy northy side on a bit of the Hana highway to see the windsurfers. Wind does interesting things to Holly’s hair.

Finally navigated around Kaanapali hotels to find Black Rock so Max could get his snorkel on. For the second day running, a turtle swam under him within arm’s reach. Max is Hawaii’s Aquaman.
